“In architecture one is confronted with problems for which one must find solutions. The best architecture is the clearest and most direct solution to the problem.” Mies van der Rohe

Philippe Barrière Collective (PB+C0) has engaged pressing societal, geopolitical and environmental problems with practical and refined design.

In the last twenty years, the Collective has developed a forward-thinking expertise in addressing issues pertaining to suburbanization (i.e. ParkUrbia), the Interstate Highway System (i.e. Infrastructure Architecture) and to social and humanitarian issues such as homelessness, refugee camps and health crises. This approach has been qualified by the architecture critic Joan Ockman as critical realism (see the book Resolution, Repositioning the Relation Between Man and Nature (http://amzn.to/barriere-resolution).

Presently, the Collective is involved with several international projects:
- In Kenya (Maai Mahiu) for CTC International (CTCINTERNATIONAL.ORG) with the design a Community Center, an outpatient Clinic and Malika Mom Workshop with A.Zahner Manufacture.
- In Haiti (Jacmel) for Providens Group Limited SA (HDAfoundation.org) with the design of a new 350-dwelling development near Jacmel.
- In England (Liverpool), a prototype has been selected by Planet Art eXchange for the John Lennon Memorial Pavilion in Penny Park for the Penny Lane Development Trust.
- In Tunisia (Tunis), a prototype has been selected by Game Over Art for a Tunisian Art Gallery (TAG) to exhibit work that would have been impossible to create before its recent revolution.

By integrating competent specialists and manufacturers early in the design process, the collective goal is to produce simple, efficient, economical and sophisticated cutting edge solutions.
